Visiting the FOL

On Thursday I had the oppertunity to go to the Forward Operating Location (FOL) for the United States Air Force. Together with an engineer from the USAF, who has been diving with me, I got a tour of the KC-135 Stratotanker, a US aerial refueling tanker aircraft. The tour took about an hour and I was allowed to look around and inside the aircraft. First checked out the aircraft itself. Landing gear, engines and of course the refueling boom. After that we kicked in the generator and powered up the aircraft. Sat in the cockpit and looked at all the gauges, levers and little buttons. Couldn't touch though, same that. After that we walked through the fuselage to the tail and to a little pit from where the operator controls the boom. Nice and cosy but still no buttons to press. Great thing to see up close and "thanks Ratt for the tour".

Hurricane Omar

Since monday night we have been bothered by Tropical depression sixteen, now almost two days later the depression turned into a class one hurricane named Omar. Fortunately Omar is moving away from Curacao and headed towards the Windward Islands in the Caribbean. We had a lot of rain the past 48 hours and strong winds which produced big strong waves and destroyed at least 70% of the beaches on the southern part of Curacao. At Hook's Hut we're I work, the piers have been destroyed, the beach is gone and a lot of material damage. Hopefully tomorrow is calmed down a bit and we can start cleaning up and maybe get back to work and diving. Follow this link for some more pictures from me. Also try this link for pictures from all over the island.
